YOU CAN TRUST ME by British author, Sophie McKenzie, a suspense psychological mystery, years apart--of friendship, lies, marriage, betrayal, and murder. The events that transpire bring Livy back to 18-years earlier when her own sister, and Julia’s best friend, Kara was brutally murdered after a college party. I did find some of the choices she makes in relation to going off gallavanting being the private detective at the cost of time with her family was a bit unusual for a devoted mother.

It is also the reason I read so many more psychological thrillers these days, eagerly craving the thrill Close My Eyes gave me. I do think some of the characters were done really well especially Livy's husband and Julia's brother. The brain behind Deedeesblog, Detola is an embodiment of creativity - With deep knowledge in Counseling and Photography, He started this platform to share happiness via digital contents in Relationships and Documentaries. When Livy and her two children, six-year-old Zack and twelve-year-old Hannah, arrived at her best friend Julia’s home for their weekly Sunday lunch, Livy had no idea her life, and that of her family’s, was about to change – terribly. In other words, you have to take care of yourself, to be aware if the other person is behaving in untrustworthy ways; but you also have to behave in trustworthy ways yourself.

It leaned more toward thriller than mystery which isn't usually my thing but it kept me interested, even when some of the long descriptions and inner thoughts were stressing me out because I needed answers! Simply put, you started a relationship with a set of hopes and expectations that influenced what you allowed yourself to see. I also found McKenzie's writing about friendships, marriage, family and trust to be insightful and spot on. That is according to Paul Zak, a neuroeconomist at Claremont Graduate University in California who has studied the chemical underpinnings of trust for more than a decade.

Livy’s character was fairly bland, she seemed to lack oomph so I took a while to warm to her and I struggled to understand how this woman was so close to Julia. For instance, what if you meet someone who you think is an interesting person, but with whom you don’t have any sexual chemistry?

The story line was a little on the far-fetched side, but I liked the constant shifting on who could have done the crimes. With an increasing number of our interactions taking place online, physical contact is often not an option. I love the characters and the plot and just the way the author makes me believer everything and suspect who she wants me too. I find it hard to believe a passenger DISAPPEARS and the Captain, security, crew just ho-hum along and the spouse and best friend have to become Scooby and Shaggy and solve the mystery. Obviously, Young Adult books are THE best, but I do have a soft spot for poetry and adult books also.In his new book Trust factor: the science of creating high-performance companies, Zak recommends that instead of always pretending they have everything covered, managers should be more willing to admit defeat and ask their employees for possible solutions. So when Julia is found dead in her home, Livy cannot come to terms with the news that she chose to end her own life. I love that Kiersten’s books get right into it, she isn’t wasteful with words and doesn’t ever waste her reader’s time. It’s not a glamorous life, but it gives them the freedom they crave from the painful pasts they’ve left behind.

You Know if You Can Really Trust Someone? How Do You Know if You Can Really Trust Someone?

The plot is quite complex, with a number of suspects and I was constantly changing my mind about who was guilty throughout the read. My brain gets a ton of info when I’m hugging someone rather than shaking hands from three feet away,” says Zak. Initially drawn together by grief over the murder of her sister Kara, eighteen years ago, Livy has been friends with Julia since they were teenagers. The desire to know what has happened pushes her to start her own investigation into her friend's death. The ending itself was so beyond ridiculous in my opinion, I really wish it had been handled differently. Livy's husband and friends say it is her guilt over this that is making her obsessed with unfounded suspicions. Soon, it transpires that Esme had a date-rape drug GHB in her blood and Alana realises, with horror, that it was HER drink that was meant to be spiked: Esme took it at the last minute. When Livy arrives at Jula’s flat for a lunch date, she finds her dead, as she did not answer her text the previous night and now feels guilty. And when Livy finally faces her sister’s killer, and he traps her with one horrible, impossible choice, she must finally decide: is she strong enough to trust herself?
