One thing DJI does really well is the 360-degree HorizonSteady, which corrects shakes for any horizontal rotation and keeps a straight horizon. It works really well and allowed me to get some shots I would have messed up otherwise, but alas, it’s limited to 2.7K footage. I’m looking forward to this working in 4K in a future version. Over one billion colors can be recorded to reproduce your world in stunning detail, delivering smoother and more natural color gradations for greater flexibility in post-production.

Like the Action 2, the Osmo Action 3 is based on a 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor and f/2.8 aperture lens with a wide-angle field of view. At 155º, this is actually wider than the FOV offered by GoPro Hero models, which is potentially a big deal if you’re looking to get as much in frame as possible. US customers may have extra concern about transmitting data to DJI, as the company is on the Treasury Department's Entity List due to allegations of the company's involvement in digital surveillance of the Uyghur ethnic minority.The DJI OSMO Action 3 is an excellent action camera that offers plenty of features and rugged build quality for less money than its main rival, which, admittedly, makes it more appealing in the eyes of many. Better still, most of the shortcomings are not significant and will only affect a small number of shooting modes/people. The DJI Osmo Action 3 has a few things going for it that competing GoPro Hero cameras don't match, including the front touch LCD, a 52-foot waterproof rating, and easy-on-easy-off mounting system. Battery life is another strong point, with good runtimes, a resistance to overheating, and a sensible charging case accessory as marks in its favor. The customizability options extend to the product’s design, which features a modern and expanded colour range in addition to an iincreased positioning offer. Case or not, this camera is tough. It’s able to survive drops of up to 1.5m unscathed and be dunked up to 16m in water without a dive case (an optional dive case is available, boosting water resistance to 60m). The lens is swappable too, so if it gets scratched or otherwise damaged you don’t need to replace the entire camera.
Electronic Image Stabilisation With Horizon Lock
Despite these limitations, however, I found performance to be pretty impressive. The camera’s image stabilisation ensured footage remained smooth, even while the camera was shaking around quite violently, and the horizon levelling was effective, keeping video dead level. The ideal attachment temperature range is -10° to 40° C (14° to 104° F). Do not attach to curved surfaces, and make sure the attachment surface is clean. It is recommended to press down on the attachment for 10 seconds after applying and leave for 30 minutes before use.
You can of course use your smartphone and the DJI Mimo app as a form of remote control, and it works brilliantly thanks to simple controls, big screen viewfinder and solid wireless connection.
