To call this a vast improvement over the 2011 Blu-ray would be a gross understatement. Paramount's new 2160p/Dolby Vision UHD release is stellar, Starring: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Timothy Olyphant, Jamie Kennedy, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Heather Graham, Sara Michelle Geller, Liv Schreiber with "A Wes Craven Film" text also printed vertically above. Calibrated with Calman color calibration software and Portrait Displays C6 HDR2000 colorimeter from Portrait.com) For a number of reasons Scream has become ingrained in our popular culture and, for better or worse, has endured as a horror classic. Scream 2 adheres to the same formula as its predecessor, leapfrogging from the events that transpired, in a new setting and involving the central character of Sidney Prescott, now again, being stalked by Ghost Face. As with the first film, the air of mystery and, bloodletting continues as the who and why aren’t revealed until the finale. Scream 2 isn’t bad, especially if you enjoyed Scream. The problem is that, despite its solid casting and willingness to bump them off, there isn’t anything fresh about it. Its two-hour runtime (9 minutes longer than the original) didn’t help matters. Regardless, I didn’t mind the revisit and had some fun. In the wake of Wes Craven’s Scream getting a 4K Ultra HD upgrade, Craven’s sequel Scream 2is now also coming to 4K Ultra HD Steelbook, Bloody Disgusting has learned this week. I always find it amusing when watching Scream 2 how the characters are discussing sequelitis in the opening act, complete with arguing over which sequels actually were better than the first. A rarity in film making, as most of the creative energy went into the first, and the second usually attempts to simply up the ante and max things out to level 11. While Scream 2 may not SUCCEED it’s originator, it most certainly ties it for best movie of the franchise. Not to mention it’s the film where the series starts to get even more meta than it had before, winking and nudging the audience along as it plays with horror and sequel tropes. Scream 2 recently underwent a 4K re-mastering and its presentation on Ultra HD Blu-ray was derived from that process. Featurette– A short, seven minute featurette is shown with interviews “talking heads” that talk about the sequel, the film as a whole and so on. Meh. Poor Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has finally moved on from the fact that Billy Loomis tried to murder her after killing her mother 2 years ago, and has gone on to college where she has a nice boyfriend in the form of Derek (Jerry O’Connell) and hanging out with her friends on campus. That is until a copycat murderer starts stabbing people just like the first go around, and now Sydney has no idea who could possibly be after her. Dewey (David Arquette) sagely warns her that it HAS to be someone entrenched in her life (as these movies always do) before trying to help her figure out what’s going on.
