I felt myself shift from believing her, to feeling that she was in the midst of a breakdown, back to believing that what she was going through was real.

They forge an unlikely friendship, and the book focuses on its development and their attempts to sort out their very different family problems. In places its not aged well but mostly it's just because this is a children's book and the family dynamics in this book hit hard in places. Destiny's narration was very honest and you could clearly see how her mothers actions were affecting her. I also loved how every chapter the main character changed and you could see what they were feeling and dealing with.As a teenager she started work for a magazine publishing company and then went on to work as a journalist on Jackie magazine (which she was told was named after her! Danny and his second wife had three children, Sunset, Sweetie and Ace, they were very rich and lived in a landed property with three servants, but Danny wasn't really on good terms with Lucy. Quite a few of the chapters open with a selection of these tales to really help this theme cement in your mind and show just how creepy they are. She is strong, likeable character who is the perfect reliable narrator contrast to Lauren’s unreliable one.

Golding said that she intentionally played into this ambiguity, but wrote as if both interpretations were true. It was interesting to see how much of a difference there is between a rich child and a poorer child.However, I can only say very little about Little Darlings because too much backstory about folklore might 1) cause your eyelids to droop, 2) make you think I’m a little batty (you wouldn’t be entirely wrong), and 3) most importantly, give entirely too much away. An excellent book to chill your blood through your veins and to activate your paranoid antennas, Little Darlings by Melanie Golding is a very well-documented and well-written gruesome tale in the real world. Jacqueline Wilson is THE author to go to when looking for a good book for young girls although to be honest her old stuff is a lot more interesting and meaning compared to the new.

Gripping, making you want to scream at the characters, intriguing with the mental health aspect, and chilling, leaving you haunted right down until the last word. Lauren is convinced that she wasn’t dreaming, and slowly but surely she enters a nightmare world where she tries to impress on those around her that her children are in danger, but no-one believes her, not even her husband Patrick. Similarly, Detective Harper's challenge to pursue her gut instincts that contradict her boss's rules and plans makes her another compelling character that I appreciated following. I can’t honestly remember when I first came across a changeling story so I’m not even sure where to recommend finding that content. Her husband Patrick is uninvolved and she begins to feel increasingly isolated as her fears that the woman from the maternity ward is stalking her are dismissed by authorities as psychosis.Maybe, but the sasquatches whom the volcano displaced contributed to the statistics, too, if only out of self-defense. I would have to classify this as a psychological thriller with the addition of folklore or the supernatural.
