I fitted my first hive a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was the most stupid thing to fit in the world, absolutely no instructions in any of the three things you have to fit. Then set the Temperature you need and this Thermostat will keep you heater at this temp :-) This DIY tool made off stuff lying around is used by me to heat up Heaters such as Hot End and Heat Beds from 3d printers.

Not true, its only single core green/yellows that can't be used as a live connector, and earth in a multicore flex is fine to use for something else as long as its flagged up the appropriate colour. Just to add a little closure to this, I've now installed a tado thermostat and I think I'll stick with that platform for now. The receiver talks to the Thermostat which then talks to the Hive hub which is ethernet connected to the router.e. a separate hot water tank heated by your boiler) you can control your hot water with the thermostat. However, the thermostat doesn’t work with storage heaters or individual plug-in electric room heaters.

I have been advised to go to Tool Station or Screwfix to get a compatible backplate, ie REPLACING the whole backplate (which has the wiring terminals and connections for the 'front' control unit). you need to see what terminal does what so you turn the receiver over to see if there is a pin out on the back like most timers, there is but it helpfully has a picture of the pins with 1 2 3 4 under them, ******* useless. If your internet connection goes down, your Hive Thermostat will continue to work with your thermostat switching your heating on and off as normal. However, if you have existing intelligent oil boiler heating controls that modulate your heating, a Hive thermostat will not replace this functionality.You can manage your heating using the Hive app wherever you are, including boosting your heating and creating schedules.

My brother wanted a stand for his Hive thermostat and couldn't find anything he really liked so came up with this. Helpfully, the developer gave us absolutely no info on the controls so I've had to do a bit digging myself.It plugs into your broadband router and connects all of your Hive devices wirelessly so they can be easily controlled remotely. I know the boiler end of the wiring is fine and my boiler is already set to constant as my existing receiver works just fine. We are yet to complete our testing on these systems and therefore can’t yet guarantee compatibility.
