Another exciting read from this author … brilliant can't wait to see if there's another one in the series . It was a long bar with rounded corners and a small side area at either end housing just a couple of stools.

He was tall, slim and good looking with jet-black hair, and she thought for the umpteenth time how lucky she was to be married to him. So if you haven’t read Slur, (although I do recommend it), you will not be missing out by diving straight into this one. The lady and her dog passed by, and Beth was finally able to get Rex to come out of his hiding place behind her legs and continue walking. I am a sufferer of depression and found this was covered well in the novel, it can be hard to portray in a book but I think the author has given the character more depth and made Julie more believable in her situation. In short, I absolutely LOVED reading ‘Blood Ties’ and I can’t wait to read what comes next from Heather Burnside.Blackmail is the new standalone gangland thriller from Heather Burnside, author of the Working Girls series, that's perfect for fans of Kimberley Chambers, Martina Cole and Emma Tallon. Although she’s moved on, she’s never forgotten how far she had to go to beat her addictions and raise her daughter, Candice. He smiled disarmingly, and Beth noticed it made him look even more handsome with his perfect white teeth. The relationship between the characters is also great to follow, sometimes characters do not work together but the main characters blend well, I liked watching Julie and Vinny grow.

I greatly enjoyed the two very different personalities of Julie and her friend Rita and though that the ending fitted well. The walls were painted in a relaxing dove grey aside from a feature wall, which was papered in a deep-blue and grey pattern with touches of silver. The first book in Heather's new Manchester Thriller series, Blackmail, was published in paperback in February 2023. All characters, organizations, and events portrayed in this novel are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. But he senses she is harbouring something dark… And when the truth is finally revealed, Brady blackmails Beth into bankruptcy. She turned her head to the side to get a better look and noticed a distinguished, good-looking man of about forty sitting on a stool at the end of the bar.

When Beth meets wealthy crime boss Martin , he sets her up in business, dotes on her and gives her everything she wants. Set in 1996, a time when Manchester was dealing with a serious drug and gang problem, Gangster’s Grip is the story of a normal family, who through a mixture of love and intimidation, become too mixed up in that world. It’s launch day for Blackmail, the second book in a series of standalone crime thrillers and also my thirteenth novel. Heather Burnside spent her teenage years on one of the toughest estates in Manchester and she draws heavily on this background as the setting for many of her novels. I was familiar with the dialogue used (as I live in the UK) and felt that it fitted with the story well.

The feeling of desperation and constant threat runs through the whole book, and is almost enough to make you want to stop reading, if you weren’t so invested in the characters. But she was curious about the person whose eyes had never left her since she walked across the room.
