Clearance can be an issue, as the added layer of protection around the tires can require extra space, and not all off-road bikes have sufficient clearance for mudguards, especially with chunkier tires. Riders might need to downsize their tires or switch to a smaller wheel size for compatibility with mudguards. For those who prioritize full mud and water protection and don’t mind spending a bit more, full-length mudguards are an excellent option. These mudguards provide more comprehensive coverage, keeping you dry from head to toe and maintaining your gravel bike frame and components in better condition. Full-length mudguards usually come with mounting materials, struts kits, and sometimes even stainless steel fixed bridges for added durability. The SKS Bluemels Reflective Mudguards are a popular option, with sizes to fit tires ranging from 28-47mm and the additional ASR system for extra protection in case of wheel jams.

There are some pre cut arcs that you can follow to cut the side of the fender to make more room for your brake calipers and which will prevent the cut from propagating any further and turning the fender into a stump. When choosing gravel bike mudguards, it’s essential to consider several practical factors to ensure you make the best choice for your specific needs and preferences. Here, we’ll discuss four key considerations: clearance and fit, weight, protection level, and ease of installation and removal. While our Southern California climate may not highlight some of their key benefits, overall the gravel specific Ass Saver lineup easily impressed on design, function and durability. Products tested: not break while being bashed around. The width is optimized for tyre sizes commonly used by gravel cyclists. Mounted You’ll get the most out of this thing with a carbon, disc brake gravel bike with a lot of tire clearance, where you can set it really close to the rear tire.

Fixing the Fendor Bendor couldn't be easier; fold the plastic sheet along the pre-scored lines to give the mud guard some shape and integrity and then squeeze it through the rear stays above the rear brake and attach it to the seat tube with a strap of velco. Et voila. Once in place it is remarkably rigid and doesn't seem to budge at all, though of course it doesn't work if you have a wishbone design rear seat stay.In summary, Ass Savers Fenders are a must-have accessory for off-road adventure cyclists who demand both convenience and functionality. With their compatibility across various tire widths, lightweight design, and no-tool mounting system, these fenders are perfect for riders who prefer minimal fuss and maximum performance. So, gear up your gravel bike with Ass Savers Fenders and enjoy a messy-free off-road ride! Lightweight and Easy-to-Mount Front Mudguards for Gravel Bikes In addition to these options, there are several other lightweight front mudguards worth considering, such as the Fenders Fendor Bendor Big. This rear guard is known for its discreet and lightweight design, weighing only 60 grams. Despite its weight, the Fendor Bendor Big offers excellent stability and protection on gravel and off-road terrains. The MUDDER Mini will fit all gravel/cx forks with clearance for tire widths between 32 mm up to 55 mm. It will not work on a road fork with narrow clearance or for fat bikes. The correct position is about 10 mm above the tire. Aligning the position to the tire and not the fork crown increases efficiency and is made possible by our custom hook and loop straps. Make sure that the mudguard doesn't touch your down tube when turning the handlebar. Weighing 60g, the Fendor Bendor Big is certainly lightweight but remarkably stable with some well-designed creases and folds giving the thin polypropylene its shape and rigidity. Fitting is straightforward, the single Velcro strap means you can easily attach and remove it from your bike, but we did find compatibility issues with frames that had a mono stay and it may well not play nicely with rim brake calipers either. Another pitfall to be aware of is clearance on the other side of the guards: i.e., how nicely they play with your bags and feet. On smaller frames especially, toe overlap with the front fender / mudguard and giant saddle bags fighting for position with the rear mudguard are real issues.
